Cover & Contents Pages of inspiration

Below are examples of magazine covers and contents pages that I'm taking inspiration from for my prelim.

The appeal to this cover is the obvious aesthetics. This is affected and made enjoyable via the layout being simplistic yet quite busy, the imagery being very much eye catching (drawing viewers attention to key points) and the use of bright and bold colour schemes allows this cover to be eye catching.

I chose this cover for similar reasons to the last: that it is very aesthetically pleasing and various factors contribute to its success. By having the skyline also acting as a masthead, it draws focus to the rest of the cover and entices the viewer to read more. This close up shot is a vital focus point also within the cover and a key selling point. By having the sell lines quite minimal, it provokes interest dramatically.

By using a main image and a well cataloged list of key contents, it successfully conveys the most attractive info to the audience. Also, the subscription info is made clear in order to make the viewer attracted to this prospect. In doing this, the viewer is allowed to see the contents and is met by this option if they enjoy what they see.

This alternative contents page, i find, does not conform to the typical techniques used. The bold focus point of the page is the main image where the contents are listed in a more casual manner as though they are unimportant. This furthers the interest by the viewer as they are curious as to what is behind this photography-focused visage. In using the skyline again as a main title, the same effect of intrigue for the the rest of the page is felt. All of these aspects inspire me to create an alternative style of my own.
